AUSTIN (KXAN) – Professional Bull Riders call Austin home with a new sports team: Austin Gamblers.

The team is part of the PBR Premier Team Series, a new league of bulls for PBR that consists of eight teams and 10 events across the country, with a championship event in Las Vegas.

Austin Gamblers will be the first professional sports team to host an event at the new Moody Center August 26-28. The season officially starts in July.

Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell has also joined the team’s ownership group. The team is currently owned by Egon Durban.

“I am pleased to invest alongside the Durbans in an exciting new professional sports team in the PBR,” Michael Dell said in a press release. “Importantly, the Gamblers promise to add a true Texas dimension to Austin’s growing sports and entertainment offerings, strengthening our great community.”

On Thursday, the team will host a launch party at Republic Square in downtown Austin. The event is free and open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It will feature live music from the Ghosts of Kenny Rogers, food trucks, and bull riding games, including a live bull and a mechanical bull on site.

Attendees will also get to meet bull riding champions, including two-time defending PBR champion Jose Vitor Leme and player coach Michael Gaffney, a former champion and one of the original founders of PBR.

The PBR Team Series league will launch in June and will feature some of the best bull riders from around the world. The Austin Gamblers roster will include seven runners as well as three practice squad members.

The Austin Gamblers won the first-ever team draft lottery to determine the order of selection among the eight teams, according to team officials. This means the Gamblers will have the first pick in the draft on May 23 in Arlington, Texas.
