Just half an hour from Oriole Park in Baltimore, Maryland is a peaceful 26-acre property intrinsically linked to the history of the city’s baseball team and American pastime.
Owned by World Series winner and National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Cal Ripken Jr., the estate has served as both a home and training ground for its current owner.
“This is a very, very special and spectacular property,” said real estate agent Charlie Hatter of Monument Sotheby’s International Realty. “From a sports fan’s point of view, it has all the amenities… a baseball field, a batting cage, an indoor basketball court, a practice hall. “
A track that winds around a large scenic pond was even once used by Mr Ripken for training during the season, Mr Hatter said. The sports memorabilia and trophies kept in Mr. Ripken’s long-term residence only further illustrate the recognition and dedication of its current owner.
Yet despite all the reminders of Mr. Ripken’s accomplishments and his deep connection to the sport, Mr. Hatter noted that the Big House is not ostentatious. The residence renounces the gaudy in favor of a welcoming, warm and tasteful accommodation. With acres and acres of bucolic land surrounding the house, the natural landscape only reinforces this feeling of welcome to the countryside. “This is the land of horses, so the land itself is spectacular,” said Mr. Hatter, “It’s wooded, there’s a big pond, it’s grass wide open…” Sometimes , natural amenities offer as much comfort as those created by man.
The approximately 26,000 square foot home contains six bedrooms, plus 10 full and partial bathrooms on a large 26 acre estate.

Mr. Ripken is considered one of Major League Baseball’s most iconic players. Nicknamed “The Iron Man” for playing in a record 2,632 straight games, he attributed much of his success to the strong work ethic his father instilled in him. This intense focus and work ethic have paid off. In addition to his record-breaking streak, Mr. Ripken played 21 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles, was 19-time All-Star, two-time American League MVP and two-time Gold Glove award winner.
In addition to the plethora of sports facilities, the property also has a large outdoor swimming pool, parking for five cars in an attached garage, a gourmet kitchen with a large kitchen island, several walk-in closets, ‘a steam shower, a Jacuzzi tub and even a covered cinema room with its own ticket office.
