Colorado is now home to the American Ultimate Disc League’s newest professional team, the Colorado Summit.

The team is one of 25 teams in the United States and Canada that will play in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). The Colorado Summit is the state’s first professional ultimate team, although Colorado has hosted many top-tier club, youth, and college ultimate teams.

Colorado Summit

The Ultimate Frisbee, often referred to simply as Ultimate, premiered in 1969 and has since attracted over 8 million players in over 100 countries. You can even see it at the 2028 Olympics. Ultimate is usually played on a field the size of a soccer field, but the goal crests are 20 meters long. Fourteen players are on the field at the same time, with seven from each team. The score is similar to football, where a team must throw the disc into the opposing team’s end zone and catch it to score a point. Once a player catches the disc, they cannot run. Anyone wishing to play on the pro team is welcome to participate in the trials in January. Keep an eye on the Colorado Summit website here (it’s not live yet).

Starting next summer, the Colorado Summit will begin playing at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at the University of Denver. AUDL will announce the schedule in the spring. All games are streamed live on AUDL.TV.

The Colorado Summit will also host youth clinics in the summer of 2022. This will include outreach to underprivileged communities to introduce children to ultimate and the state’s professional gamers.

AUDL said it is currently renegotiating national television deals. In previous seasons, FS1, FS2, DraftKings and ESPN have been its domestic broadcast partners, AUDL said.

A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the steps near the clock tower opposite the Peter Barton lacrosse stadium (2240, boulevard Buchtel Sud). Team owners, local officials, professional athletes and young players will be in attendance.
