DeRidder, LA (KPLC) – A DeRidder husband and wife have been arrested after being charged with using funds from a youth baseball / softball league for personal gain, according to the DeRidder Police Department .
According to the police department, on Tuesday, May 4, they received a complaint of possible embezzlement by certain members of the board of directors of the DeRidder Baseball / Softball League.
The police department said detectives began their investigation with the league’s financial records, purchases and other evidence, and it has appeared since 2019 board chairman Benjamin Talley, 49, and the secretary / treasurer of the board, his wife, Paulette Talley, 51, both of DeRidder, used league funds, totaling over $ 6,000 for personal use, food, gas and home improvements of their own residence.
On Thursday, June 10, Benjamin and Paulette Talley were arrested for criminal conspiracy to commit theft; and theft, the two felonies, and booked in BPSO jail with bail set at $ 10,000 each, the police department said.
Police Department says a condition of their bail is that they cannot have any contact with any baseball league member, director or officer, and failure to comply with bail terms could result in forfeiture of their bail and be reincarcerated.
The investigation is still ongoing.
