Dragster Ronnie Hobbs has died. No age was provided.

An official cause of death has yet to be announced.

“The staff and family of MWDRS (Mid-West Drag Racing Series) and SRCA are mourning the loss of one of our racers, Ronnie Hobbs,” read the Mid-West Drag Racing Series Facebook post. “Please respect everyone’s privacy at this time.”

On Friday, the Mid-West Drag Racing Series held an event at the SRCA Drag Strip in Great Bend, Kansas. The Great Bend Nationals featured Pro Mods, Alcohol Funny Cars, Top Dragsters, Top Sportsman and Junior Dragsters.

At this time, we do not know how he died. And we don’t want to speculate out of respect for the family.

There are several social media posts that say he was involved in an accident. However, we were unable to confirm this at the time of publication.

Hobbs was the fifth Pro Mod qualifier at 7:09 p.m. local time. He had done 3.804 at 200.89 mph in a 2017 Mustang. His car was nicknamed “The Texas Rattlesnake”.

Ronnie was one of two drivers in the car, according to the team’s Facebook page. No updates have been made to the page since April 25.

“Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to the family of one of our own,” Xtreme Raceway Park said in a Facebook post. “Good speed Ronnie Hobbs.”
