So for the majority of high school football teams in the Hudson Valley Sports Report coverage area, two weeks is on the books.

A few – Highland, Lourdes, Kingston, Red Hook, Roosevelt – have three games under their belt after appearing in “week 0” games at the start of the season.

It remains to be seen whether that extra game helps these teams, but one of them is 3-0 and two of them are 2-1, so they’re feeling good right now.

As we head into Week 3 we have some great games on the schedule that will likely change the rankings again in a week from today.

For now, here is your Top 5 HVSR.

(HVSR covers 31 high schools – all schools in Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster counties, as well as Newburgh in Orange County.)

KNOCK AT THE DOOR – Wallkill (2-1), Kingston (2-1), Red Hook (2-1)

HONORABLE MENTION – Highland (3-0), Dover (2-0), Pine Plains (2-0), John Jay (1-1), Arlington (1-1)

5-RATCHET (2-0) – The Tigers are the reigning Eight Men’s League champions until someone says otherwise. But they have back-to-back tough games ahead – at a surprising 2-0 at Dover this week and at home at 2-0 at Pine Plains after a week off.

4-BEACON (2-0) – And those bulldogs! A surprising victory over Kingston to start the season then 21 consecutive points to erase a 14-0 deficit to beat Roosevelt. In Larry David’s immortal words, “Prett-ay, pretty good.”

3-NEWBURGH (1-1) – There is no shame in suffering an 18-13 last-minute loss to the reigning two-time Class A State Champion Cornwall. This is why Newburgh did not make it out of the Top 5 after starting out. year n ° 1.

2-MARLBORO (2-0) – Two games, two resounding victories. This week will tell us a lot more about the Iron Dukes – they face Port Jervis, the team they lost twice last season by over 100 points.

1-CARMEL (2-0) – The Rams right now are clearly above everyone else, but they have a showdown ahead – a rematch of the 2019 Section 1, Class AA title game against New Rochelle. Let’s see what the Rams can do against the Eternal Champions.
