Northwoods – It was a big day for sports in high school statewide! Section semifinal action in men’s soccer and women’s volleyball!
On the ground, Lakeland Union welcomed Mosinee, the enemy of the Great Northern Conference. The Thunderbirds were the seed on their side of the support, but they fall in this game. Mosinee’s Toren Holtz scored the only goal of the game in the tenth minute of the first half. Mosinee will travel to Rice Lake this Saturday to face the Warriors for the sectional championship.
The Northland Pines boys’ football team was also in action against Washburn / Bayfield. The Eagles’ season comes to an end, however, as they fall 3-0.
Now in the field, we had several teams competing in the hopes of making it to the section finals!
Three lakes welcoming Laona / Wabeno. The Blue Jays had beaten the Rebels three times in the regular season, but they couldn’t get the job done Thursday night. Laona / Wabeno sweeps Three Lakes and will then face Columbus Catholic.
In Division Two, Mosinee hosted Winneconne. Mosinee came out on fire in the first set and never looked back, winning 3-1. They’re heading for the section finals! Mosinee will face Luxembourg-Casco on Saturday.
The Marathon Red Raiders were in action to welcome Stanley-Boyd. The second set was a back-and-forth battle between the Red Raiders and the Orioles! Stanley-Boyd would take the set and ultimately the match 3-1.
Finally, DC Everest faced off against River Falls. The Evergreens fought all night but the Wildcats were too much into this one. River Falls wins in straight sets.
