However, according to the study of Betspertthey are only the second most popular sports team in the world, with Spanish champions Real Madrid beating United to first place.
European soccer teams dominated the top ten, with only the NBA’s Golden State Warriors managing to slip into the top ten.
The list was compiled by Betspert, they undertook a global survey to find out which teams were most searched for on Google, in every country in the world. European football has once again proven its dominance over other sports by dominating the list.
53 countries have sought Real Madrid more than any other sports team in the world, United came second, with 50 countries backing the Red Devils. Barcelona were a far cry from the top two, with 23 countries securing third place for the Catalan club.
The fact that the NBA’s Golden State Warriors had Stephen Curry in their ranks would certainly have helped their rise in the world, as they finished in tenth place, leading searches in three countries.
United will be disappointed to finish second as they have always believed they are the biggest club in the world, but recent on-field struggles may have played a part in the team’s loss to Real Madrid .
