Henry Mussa, who has been appointed the new sports minister as part of Peter Mutharika’s reshuffle, has said he wants to develop the sport in the country.

In the reorganization of the cabinet, Sports, previously headed by Grace Chiumia, now Minister of the Interior and Homeland Security, was transferred to the Ministry of Labor, Youth, Sports and Workforce Development. work with Henry Mussa retained as minister.

Mussa pledged that the sports sector would not be affected by the change and called for unity between the government, the sports council and sports associations.

According to Mussa, he is an avid follower of the sport and he supports Manchester United football club in the English Premiership League. Locally, he is linked to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.

Mussa, who holds a taekwondo black belt, also said he has a history in the javelin, discus throw and basketball.

“I am passionate about sports,” he says.

Mussa said the sport will have a real defender in him.

“I intend to introduce a hotline where every Malawian would be free to make proposals on how we can meet the challenges,” he said, adding that he needed time to work out his sport development strategy.

“The development of sport in the country is not the responsibility of the government or the administrators only, but of all Malawians. We need to find viable solutions to improve sport in the country, ”explained Mussa.

Mussa said he was also concerned about the performance of Malawi’s national football team and netball queens.
