Russell Elliott, 76, of Laurel died at Christiana Care on Saturday, January 30, 2021, with his wife and children by his side.

Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin and friend. He was passionate about sports, especially after the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. He loved track races, NASCAR races and attended many events over the years. Russell coached the Georgetown Little League for many years. He helped lead the Georgetown all-star team from 1981 to the World Series where they won the title. In his later years, he attended University of Delaware football games and all the sports his grandchildren were involved in, especially women’s softball.

He had so many wonderful memories and befriended so many people over the course of his life. Friendships that he valued until the end. Russell had been happiest lately being at home, on the lawn mower, in his golf cart, or enjoying a ride in the countryside. He loved spending time with his family and friends who were like family. His greatest joy was his great-grandchildren, whom he kept sitting for hours.

Russell was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Jane Elliott, and his in-laws, Carl and Elizabeth Utz. He is survived by his beloved wife Mickey, with whom he spent 55 years and 360 marriage days; children, Stacey (ML) of Laurel and Ben (Amanda) of Ocean City, Maryland; grandchildren Jenna Ribinsky (Joey), Hunter Elliott, Cole Elliott and Ethan Cahall; the nod from his great-grandchildren Bridget, Emmalyn and Brody. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Valérie Polgar and several cousins.

Russell’s last wish was to have no service because he wanted to be remembered as a favorite memory that you shared with him. Arrangements are in the care of Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel. Online condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.hsdfuneralhome.com.
