GANDHINAGAR: More than two years after it was rescinded by Parliament to remove J&K’s special status, ‘Section 370’ gets a makeover in Gujarat as the theme of a kabaddi and cricket tournament hosted by the BJP each in the Gandhinagar constituency of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A proposal to name the mid-December event “Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Premier League 370” has been endorsed by the party and an official announcement will be made soon, Gujarat BJP General Secretary Pradipsinh Vaghela said on Tuesday.
Vaghela said the name of the tournament was meant to be an acknowledgment of Shah’s role in tabling the bill that led to the cancellation of Section 370. He said people in Gujarat could easily identify with on behalf of the event as their MP was instrumental in removing the provision that granted special status to J&K for decades.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all MPs to organize sports tournaments in their constituencies. So, to provide a platform for talented youngsters, Shah also asked us to organize such tournaments in his constituency. We will start with kabaddi and cricket and then move on to other sports,” Vaghela said.
A registration campaign for tournaments and teams will begin soon. Party sources said the competition is likely to start on December 15.
