Over 2500 athletes took part in the Weymouth Ironman 70.3, 2022 race on Sunday 18th September.
The event started at 7:15 a.m. with a 1.2-mile swim off Preston Beach in near-perfect conditions with calm, flat seas, then turned into a 56-mile tour of the cycle race from Dorset, then back to Weymouth to pass again in a 13.1 mile run around the town.
As the competitors made their way along Weymouth’s esplanade, they were cheered on by crowds of spectators to the finish line outside the town’s Pavilion Theatre.
First to cross the finish line was Donald Brooks in 4 hours 11 minutes and 10 seconds, followed by Lewis Donovan in 4 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds and in third place Will Grace in 4 hours 16 minutes and 54 seconds.
The first woman in the house was Natalie Lawerence.
In football on Saturday, Weymouth progressed into the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory at Winchester City.
Terrras goals coming from Harry Kyprianou, Brad Ash and Ahkeem Rose. Dorchester exited the competition losing 1-0 to Swindon Supermarine, Portland beat Moneyfields 3-2 and Bridport lost 2-0 at St. Marys to visitors Dartmouth.
In rugby, Weymouth and Portland and Dorchester games were called off, Puddletown were beaten by Oakmeadians 41-7 and Swanage and Wareham secured a cricket score against visitors Frome A XV winning 107-5 while the second team of the Swans drew 19 points all with Lytchett Cathedral.
