An overview of Stagecoach State Park near Yampa:

Description: Nestled along a 3 mile reservoir in the thriving Yampa Valley, the park is popular among water sports enthusiasts. The lake has a full-service marina and areas designated for the no-wake group. About 8 miles of trails pass through Stagecoach, with two gravel trails reserved for hikers.

Activities: Water sports, sailing, jet skiing, paddle sports, swimming, hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing, hunting, camping, cross-country skiing / snowshoeing

Wildlife: elk, mule deer, fox, coyotes, badgers and beavers; Bald eagles, American white pelicans, white-faced ibis, coots, great blue herons, yellow warblers and goshawks among birds.

Anecdote: For the fourth year, the park will host the special Tri the Boat triathlons this summer. The two-day event features a half-Ironman race: a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a half-marathon race.

Directions: Drive north to Denver, then head west on I-70 to Silverthorne. Exit on Colorado 9 and head north to Kremmling. Turn left on US 40 and travel 45 miles. Turn left onto County Road 20 and continue for 2 miles. Turn left on Colorado 131 and travel 3 miles. Turn left on County Road 14 and continue to the park.
