Supercross star Ken Roczen is taking a break from the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross series. His Honda Racing team announced the decision on Tuesday.

No reason was given as to why he decided to step down at this time. And it is not known when he will be able to return to the sport.

Any hope of returning to win the 2022 championship is gone now with this announcement.

“Along with his team and family, Team Honda HRC rider Ken Roczen has decided to take a break from the 2022 AMA Supercross series,” the Honda HRC team said in a statement. “Roczen won Anaheim 1’s season opener on Jan. 8 in convincing fashion, but his results have since suffered as he struggles with health issues. With the strains of the busy racing schedule that complicate progress, Roczen will retire from the series indefinitely, starting with this weekend’s Detroit round.

At the time of this announcement, Roczen was ninth in the points standings. He has 131 points.

He collected 14 points in last weekend’s event. Roczen finished ninth at Daytona International Speedway last Saturday in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Outside of his season-opening win at Angels Stadium, Roczen hasn’t finished higher than fifth in other races. He finished fifth in the Week 5 event at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
