Cross country: Sophomore Adam Tovar, the only member of the SVHS cross country team this year, competed in the Eye Opener Invitational at Schollenberger Park in Petaluma on Saturday September 25. He came in fifth among the region’s sophomores with a time of 5:30 p.m. and 23rd. in total in the field of 253 finishers on the three-mile flat course.

“Adam had a fantastic race, already showing great progress in his pace early in his cross country career,” said coach John Litzenberg. The coach himself finished first in the Open / Coaches race on the same course with a time of 17:49.

This week, SVHS hosted the VVAL cross country meet at Maxwell Farms Regional Park on September 29, despite there being only one runner in the mix. Tovar was 17th of 42 finishes in 17: 00.5, slashing his last competition time on the Maxwell course by nearly two minutes. The winning time was 3:43 pm, by Drake Newell of Petaluma.

Tennis Girls: The Dragon Nets claimed their first victory on Sept. 21 over Casa Grande, 4-3, and followed it two days later with a sweep from Napa, 7-0. Rating:

The tennis team took a day off earlier this week, September 28; their most recent match was on September 30 against Petaluma in Petaluma, the results are too late for press time. They will serve and then return to SVHS on Tuesday, October 5 against Justin-Siena.

Golf girls: The Dragon golfers have had a difficult season, having had to abandon their last two games because less than five girls showed up to play. Health is often, but not always, the reason. Sonoma totals for recent games:
