Underline United were crowned champions of the Soccer Sports League junior tournament last weekend after beating Supper Life United 1-0 in a contested final at Canaan football ground in Brikama.
Abdoulie Nget scored the only goal of the game for Underline United in the 31st minute of the game.
Supper Life United attempted to restore purity but could not capitalize on their chances created in the game.
As winners of the tournament, Underline United received a giant trophy and cash prize of D14,000, while runners-up, Super Life United received a cash prize of D11,000.
Meanwhile Abdoulie Nget, striker of Underline United received a cash prize of D600 with a trophy as top scorer and Nfansu Dibba from the same team also received a cash prize of D600 with a trophy in as the best player in the league.
Super Life United’s Lamin Ceesay also received a cash prize of D400 with a trophy as the tournament’s best goalkeeper and the team’s fan club received D2,000 for the league’s best fan club. .
Speaking in an interview with Voice Sports, Lamin Fadera, President of Soccer Sports, thanked all sports committees in Brikama for their great support while appealing to sponsors from sports fans and philanthropies.
Bubacarr Manjang, Secretary General of Soccer Sports, said this is the 22nd edition of the Soccer Sports League tournament, while stressing that the tournament has helped prepare players for the national team such as James Gomez , who is now a professional footballer.
“This tournament has helped develop players like James Gomez, Alieu Kugera who plays in Germany and Bun Sanneh from Brikama United who is also a national team player,” he said.
