Pakistani girls’ education activist Malala Yousafzai married Asser Malik, managing director of the Pakistan Cricket Board High Performance Center, in an intimate ceremony called nikkah in the UK on Tuesday (November 9th). The couple’s families were present for the ceremony.

While the news of the Nobel Laureate’s wedding filled her heart with joy, curiosity for her husband has left many profiles on social media scrolling. A source at PCB said
PTI, Malik is a top performing cricket board officer and joined the High Performance Center in Lahore almost two years ago as a manager.

Since 2018, Malik has been involved in sports management. His LinkedIn profile says he brought the world’s largest amateur cricket league (Last Man Stands – LMS) to Pakistan.

His biography also indicates that he designed player development programs for Multan Sultans – a Twenty20 franchise cricket team in the Pakistan Super League.

According to his profile, the 31-year-old sports enthusiast graduated in 2012 from Pakistan University of Management Sciences in Lahore and passed out at Aitchison College in Lahore, Pakistan.

This year, Malik surprised Yousafzai with a special birthday present. Shah Rukh Khan’s life-size cutout was placed for the 24-year-old.

For strangers, Yousafzai is a fan of SRK and adores the superstar. She had previously expressed her desire to meet the actor and invited him to Oxford University to give a talk.

Yousafzai had also shared photos from his 24th birthday, but refrained from sharing any images with Malik. Therefore, one could assume that the couple kept their relationship a secret.

Based on Malik’s social media posts, it can be assumed that the couple have known each other since 2018 (or even before) and have formed a close friendship.

Yousafzai has gained international recognition for his activism against Taliban efforts to prevent girls from going to school in Pakistan. Malik often retweets the young activist’s social cause messages from his official ID on the microblogging site.

In July 2019, the couple spent time with Pakistani head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and businessman-politician Ali Khan Tareen during Pakistan’s game against New Zealand and South Africa.

The special ceremony was taken by photographer Malin Fezehai against the beautiful backdrop of autumn leaves. Fezehai has worked with Yousafzai and his Malala Fund for six years.

Yousafzai moved to the UK in 2012 after being shot in the head by a member of the Taliban at the age of 15.

In 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, becoming the youngest recipient of the prize. She shared the award with child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.
