For the first time in history, a true league has been created for the sport of mixed martial arts.
LAS VEGAS, October 13, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The World Fight League (WFL) is the first and only true mixed martial arts (MMA) league in the world. The mission of the WFL is to evolve and elevate the sport of MMA. The structure of this league is directly based on the NBA / NFL / NHL / MLB / FIFA / F1 model, in which independent franchise owners have a limited roster of athletes who compete in an impartial non-profit league against teams. opponents in a traditional league. format leading to a championship.
A growing number of influential entities within the sports industry are coming together to build this new and much needed league. Implementing the historically proven league format will ultimately lead to solving many of the issues that denigrate the MMA industry today. The current single-entity for-profit promotion format has a long list of fundamental flaws. Major promoters pay athletes less than 20% of revenue while owning the rights to hundreds of contracted athletes for several years. This inevitably leads to unwarranted control over the careers of said athletes and their lifelong earning potential. The “Ali Law” was enacted in May 2000 to protect the rights and well-being of boxers, this law unfortunately does not cover MMA athletes. To date, MMA athletes have failed to form an Athletes Union, which has caused suffering for these athletes, unlike their counterparts who compete in leagues that provide the aforementioned structure of the WFL. Currently, all WFL members encourage future athletes to form a union. All members approved by the league have agreed to offer a 50/50 revenue share, guaranteed contracts, health insurance, end-of-career insurance, minimum league contracts and a pension plan in their proposal for initial collective bargaining.
The sport of MMA has over 600 million fans, ranking third in the world. The foundation of the sports fandom rests on civic, regional and national pride; and the WFL platform will finally bring this familiar concept to MMA fans. Ultimately, the WFL will consist of four Conferences (North America, South America, Europe/Africa, Asia/Oceania). Each conference will consist of a minimum of eight deductibles and will never exceed 24 deductibles per conference. Each conference will participate simultaneously in its regular season and conference playoffs each year, leading to the world semi-finals and then to a true world championship final.
As of this publication, six members of the league franchise have been approved. Groups / individuals seeking to become a league member to own and operate a franchise in the WFL can submit proposals to [email protected]
